Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe was an internationally renowned British artist. He made illustrations for Tarka The Otter by Henry Williamson and the Nobel Prize winning Old Man And The Sea by Earnest Hemingway. His work is characterised by its precision and accuracy. Often working from Life he has provided much inspiration to many of The Land Gallery Artists, who revere his ability to capture the living essence of the plants, animals and birds that he drew and painted. Tunnicliffe began his career at the Royal College of Art and finally settled on the island of Anglesey, Wales, living in a cottage called "Shorelands" on the estuary of the Afon Cefni, until his death in 1979.
